Terrapin Creek Earth Month Paddle

April 15, 2011toApril 17, 2011

This is your chance to do three days on the Terrapin Creek with expert guides, plenty of southern comfort food, great primitive camping (with hot showers) and great camaraderie. Piedmont’s Chief Ladiga Trail Campground where we will camp for the entire weekend. This property is completely surrounded by the Talladega National Forest between Oakey Mountain and Maxwell Gap.  Terrapin Creek, the Pinhoti National Hiking Trail, and the Chief Ladiga Bike Trailall converge on this property making it one of the most unique and recreationally rich areas in the state of Alabama.  Feel free to bring your bikes and boots to further enjoy your down time.   We will group camp on the banks of the creek.  Limited to 50 people.

On Friday morning we will shuttle upstream to our put in, that only a few locals are even aware of.  This is the beginning of the new Terrapin Creek Canoe Trail. We will take out at the Chief Ladiga Trail Campground that afternoon.   Saturday morning we will put in the Terrapin Creek right at the campground for another fun filled day of paddling and shuttle back to the campground that afternoon.  Sunday morning we will shuttle to one of the most well known and highly used sections of creek in Alabama and then float to Terrapin Outdoor Center to end our weekend.  Sunday is the shortest day, to give you plenty of time to break camp and drive home.  The waters of Terrapin Creek are so clear and pure they have been compared to an aquarium.  These 3 sections of the Terrapin Creek are interspersed with gentle water, fun shoals, and tons of rocky fun making it perfect for everyone to enjoy.

All meals are provided – breakfast, lunch and dinner – for a total of nine (9) meals.  All meals will be country cooking, with every effort made to provide a variety of meats, vegetables, and whole foods – except maybe the simmering pot of chicken and dumplings that will be on the stove for Thursday night arrivals.  Morning coffee will be provided, but you are on your own for all your other drinks.  There is a campground store that sells ice and limited sodas and snacks.

Cost of the trip and all meals is $85 per person.  Free Earth Day tee shirts to the first 50 registrants.
